8th graders

8th Graders are completing their hand sewing project.  They designed a square of fabric with their name and included it in part of a patchwork pattern.  They can now sew the backstitch and the invisible stitch!





6th graders

6th graders are learning to sew the backstitch as they assemble a patchwork pillow.  One of the patchwork squares was designed by each student

Sewing Construction

8th grade students are learning to stitch the backstitch as they sew a patchwork pillow.  Each student created a surface design on one of the squares of fabric,  and will learn about other related careers as they create their unique pillows!

Some highlights from 2009-10 school year

McDonald's Grant (2008 and 2009) and JSchramm Mini Grant (2009):
"How Quickly Can You Burn off Those Calories?"
Students drank a beverage or snack of their choice, calculated the amount of sugar in the beverage or snack, created a visual and then determined an exercise that they could perform to "burn off" the calorie intake.
The students calculated the amount of sugar found in their beverage or snack of choice (converting grams to teaspoons), filled the bottles with exact amount of sugar for a visual display or created an informative poster. Bottles on display in the hallway case.

The 8th grade boys at Roberts designed and sewed scarves for the Special Olympics participants to wear during the Opening Ceremony, 2010:
